Electing to bowl first on a slightly sticky Kidmore wicket, Wargrave produced a highly clinical bowling and fielding performance, reducing the home team to 38 for 7 in the 10th over before Kidmore recovered to 87 for 9 in their allotted 20.
All eight Wargrave bowlers (Oliver Simpson, Imran Malik, Andrew Hattey, Adit Rajeev, Jordan Mortimer, Sami Colbourne, Hashim Sulaman and Thomas Vonka) bowled beautifully, which made it very difficult for captain Adit Rajeev to decide who should stay on to bowl, but the tactic of rotating the bowlers quickly ensured that the batsmen could never settle against any one bowler for a length of time, particularly considering the variety of bowling styles Wargrave has in its armoury. Key moments were the double wicket maiden by Imran Malik, and the triple wicket (all stumped) over from Sami Colbourne which really put the nail in Kidmore’s coffin.
The fielding was lead by star performer Pranav Prasad, who claimed 5 victims, 2 catches and the 3 remarkable stumpings, but the whole team put in a stella performance in the field to support the bowlers, taking every catch on offer and stopping everything that came their way.
After a positive start from openers Pranav Prasad and Alex Bishop, Wargrave lost 4 quick wickets and were reduced to 31 for 4 in the 9th over. But the result was never in doubt on the small and fast outfield of Kidmore End and Imran Malik (41) and Adit Rajeev (15) comfortably took Wargrave past the target within 16 overs.
Our next cup game, the quarter final, will be a home tie against Reading, and is due to take place next week – exact date to be confirmed. With many of the considered stronger teams already knocked out of the competition, things are looking good for Wargrave U15s!
