U9s - some great debuts at Kidmore End

Match report by John Beale

Sunday morning was another outing for the Wargrave Colts U9’s against Kidmore End. With 4 players making their debuts with all of the new boys under 8’s (Henry D, Henry E, Harry and Kit) the performance was always more important than the score line. Wargrave fielded first with Kidmore ending up 282 for 3. The boys fielded well and kept themselves organized and Kidmore did not give too many opportunities away, however with 49 extras conceded (including 4 overthrows in the last over of the game – keep backing up on every ball boys) it was always going to be an challenging total. Let’s keep practicing the bowling on Friday night – it will be a great way to quickly improve the scores. Particular note to Ryan who put his best bowling performance to date in and especially to Eddie who was easily our best bowler today – accurate, no extras, only 2 runs conceded and 1 wicket from 2 overs.
Batting, the boys did really well – the more experienced boys led the way with Sam top scoring with 14 (not out),our highest score of the season with some lovely shots, James with a quick fire 6 not out and Toby and Bruno doing really well at the end not giving any wickets away (be braver with your running Bruno). But really well done to the debutants who all scored runs and most importantly did really well in great running between the wickets. Really good to see. Be confident in yourself boys, you proved today you are good enough! We fell short at 248 for 6 but given the inexperience, the boys did really well. A special thanks as well to the more experienced boys (Sam / James / Eddie / Ryan / Toby / Bruno) who were really positive with the U8’s and helped to create an enjoyable game. Henry E and Harry got a joint MOM today for their batting and great running / talking between the wickets.
