Another lovely Sunday morning up at the Rec bought about a great close encounter against Littlewick Green. With a good mix of U9s and U8s in both teams (and great encouragement from all the players throughout) it was an even game with Littlewick winning by 5 runs in the end with a net 63. Wargrave started well in the field and collected 6 wickets with catches, clean bowls and run outs (Sam 2, James, Toby, Max and Joe claiming the scalps) – with Joe bowling a lovely wicket maiden. In addition the U8s all had a good bowl and showed real improvement as they went through the game – Henry and Harry did particularly well in their 2nd overs.
Batting we only conceded 3 wickets which was excellent given their bowling quality and some good running kept us in the game. Littlewick had as strong a bowling line up as we have faced this season with very few really weak bowlers which made it tough for us but Max (14) and Sam (10) top scored, Bruno smacked a lovely 4 and every player scored runs which was great to see everyone contributing. In the end the stats told the story of where the team needs to work….in keeping the bowling straight – but as we know that will correct itself over time and it was good to see the simple foundations of taking more wickets, not getting out as much and actually outscoring the opposition. A great way to win cricket matches in the future as they all develop!
