The U9s second game of the season was against Henley Lions. This was mainly their second team made up of U8s, but they had one extremely dangerous player who surprised us with both bat and ball!
Wargrave opened the batting to finish with 258 for the loss of just 3 wickets - great stuff, especially in not losing our wickets too cheaply. There were boundaries from James (x2), Seb (with the help of some overthrows!), Guy (x2), Toby and Teo. The running was also great - especially from Seb / Guy and Matty / Teo. Jack also played his first game for the U9s and looked very solid - lots of promise for upcoming matches!
Two of the three wickets fell to their danger player, who bowled two overs for one run and two wickets!
It was then our turn to field, and we started with some very tidy bowling and fielding. After 8 overs, we had only conceded 23 runs, but had taken four wickets to leave the net score of 203 - amazing stuff. Their last pair included their danger player who, it turned out, was a better batter than bowler! He dispatched two perfect deliveries from Eddie to the boundary, and it looked like it may be a tight finish until Teo took a wicket in the 14th over and James took two in the last. They finished on 240 with the loss of 8 wickets.
Generally, we bowled really well with wickets from Seb, Eddie, James, Matty, Toby, Bruno and Teo. Our fielding was also strong with brilliant fielding from Seb and oh-so-nearly the catch of the century from Guy. Let's just be a bit careful with overthrows - don't throw it in too hard when you don't need to and always back up.
Man of the Match went to Seb for good all-round contributions with bat, ball and in the field.
